While far from the most accurate retelling, 1971’s NIGHT OF THE PINK EYE and its sequels would give culture its iconic take on the Pink Eye of Po’Dunk, Arkansas. Writer/Director Donovan Arrow’s unique blend of documentary and horror would provide a brief national sensation.

A sequel was rushed out the following year without Donovan’s involvement. After a muted response, Donovan was able to create his direct sequel for the third entry in the series, PINK EYE 3: THE SECOND NIGHT. It was smack dab in the middle of the 80’s slasher boom, and Donovan had taken notes.

But audiences outright rejected Donovan’s new vision, and America’s brief obsession with the Po’Dunk Pink Eye was over. The film would eventually receive a place in the B-Movie canon for decapitating Slim Pickens in its opening scene, but Donovan didn’t live to see the reappraisal
